Are you a high school sophomore or junior eager to unlock your leadership potential? Look no further! Our Student Leadership Program offers a dynamic 9-month journey designed to empower you to make a positive impact on yourself, your family, your school, and your community. Through workshops, seminars, and hands-on activities, you'll develop essential skills in leadership, team-building, conflict resolution, diversity, problem-solving, job readiness, and more.

Who

We're seeking motivated students from the Thornton Area who will be sophomores or juniors in the 2024-25 school year. If you're ready to take your leadership skills to the next level, this program is for you!

Program Goals

Joining our Student Leadership Program offers a myriad of benefits to include:
• Enhance your leadership skills
• Meet successful entrepreneurs and local business leaders
• Engage in hands-on activities with local police and fire officials
• Expand your network with students from other schools
• Gain valuable skills for college applications and scholarships
• Discuss current events with peers and community leaders
• Learn about the industries and career paths in our community
• Contribute to addressing community issues through voluntary participation

Program Format

The Chamber’s Student Leadership Program begins in August and will consist of one session per month(excluding December) until April with an additional Graduation Day in April. Participants are exposed to a variety of viewpoints that illustrate the economic, political, educational, and social factors at work in the Thornton Area. They will meet with area leaders in business, media, government, education, and service
organizations. In addition, participants receive training in leadership effectiveness and human behavior.

Participants must make a commitment to the program. Attendance at each monthly session are prerequisites for graduation certification. Participants will be allowed to miss one (1) full-day session or two (2) half-day sessions due to illness or extenuating circumstances. Students missing more than one (1) full session or two (2) half-day sessions will be dismissed from the program. An absence due to a school event/program will be considered excused.

When

Our program meets once a month, excluding December, with sessions held when students do not have school. Orientation kicks off in August, followed by classes starting in September and culminating in a graduation ceremony in May. The program will begin at 9am and conclude at 3pm with lunch provided.

Participant Eligibility

All Thornton area high school sophomore and juniors are eligible to apply for this program. The Chamber will have a selection process in place to narrow down students who demonstrate leadership abilities and who exhibit concern for their community. The students must meet the following criteria:

• Have genuine interest in participating in community/leadership activities.
• Must be willing to attend all scheduled sessions.
• Must be well respected by his/her peers and/or exhibits a high level of activity at school.
• Must be able to carry on productive discussions with both adults and peers about issues that concern them.
• Must be able to maintain a professional/mature attitude for all program activities.

To apply, simply complete our application process, which includes submitting the application form, two letters of recommendation, and attending one interview. The program fee is $250 due upon acceptance, with scholarships available. Application Deadline is 11:59pm May 25th, 2024

Sponsorship Opportunities

Friend $250: Provides lunch to every student in the program for one month, receive your logo on the Chamber website and logo on all marketing materials.

Coach $500: Provides a t-shirt to every student in the program with your logo on back, receive your logo on the Chamber website, logo on all marketing materials as well as an invitation to the Student Leadership graduation.

Mentor $1000: Provides a program scholarship to a student, receive your logo on the back of the class shirts, your logo on the Chamber website, logo on all marketing materials, & an invitation to be a lunch speaker one session as well as an invitation to the Student Leadership graduation.
